China

Here are a couple of pics from China. 13 plus hour flight was fine, the food is ok, the air is heavy and polluted, the sky is grey. We have not seen the sun yet. Beijing is big and not attractive.

Dith Pran

Today Dith Pran, a New York Times photographer, died of pancreatic cancer in a hospital in NJ. If you had never heard of Dith Pran, perhaps you have seen the movie The Killing Fields which tells the true story of Dith escaping the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. His story made a big impression on me. I had met him during assignments around NY. He was a gentle and sweet man with a nice smile.

Dith Pran's last word a NY Times multimedia.

Here is an article in The New York Times and a slide show on Dith Pran.

*** hole

Black hole I said.

That is how we all shall die, in a black hole. The gizmo below is supposed to be cause of that black hole.

photo: Valerio Mezzanotti for The New York Times

I rather die in an accidental black hole than some crazy WW3, between the Bush's and the Jehadis. Read the article here.

Naw-Ruz at the White House

A traditional Haft Sin table celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is seen set on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in the State Dining Room of the White House. Nowruz is, in Persian and some other cultures, including Kurdish culture, a family-oriented holiday celebrating the New Year and the coming of spring. The Haft Sin table has seven items symbolizing new life, joy, love, beauty and health, sunrise, patience and garlic to ward off evil.

VII in DUMBO

VII one of the top leading photojournalism agencies has now moved to Brooklyn and opened up a bookstore/gallery in DUMBO.

DUMBO stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. It is an industrial area which has turned into the newest hot-spot in NYC with galleries, shops, and expensive apartments.

I took these pictures for some friends in Iran!

Huckabee in Newsweek

Huckabee takes a break from campaigning in Wisconsin to do a paid speech in Cayman Islands? I guess we both know he wont be the next president. Knowing that, he will not miss the chance to make some money on the side. Thats right....thats my photo.
