God Father of Soul

Thousands of people line up outside the Apollo Theater in Harlem to view James Brown's casket. Throngs of well-wishers jammed the famed theater, straining for a glimpse of the funeral procession of the ionic figure. Brown, 73, died of congestive heart failure on Christmas Day.

Police Brutality Demonstration

Several hundred protestors gather near Wall Street in New York City to protest the shooting of an unarmed black man by police officers in Queens on his wedding day. The march in Manhattan's financial district was the latest in a series of protests over the death of Sean Bell, who was killed last month.

Messages on the Beam

The Construction of World Trade Center officially begins. Family members of the victims of the September 11 attacks along with rescue workers write messages on a steel beam which will be used as the first official beam for construction of the Freedom Tower.
